Financial Support
St. Anne's gives nearly £100,000 a year to its MCR. The vast majority of this is in the form of scholarships or grants, some of which are described below. Support in the event of unforeseen financial hardship is also possible.
Graduate development scholarships
This scholarship is unique among Oxford colleges, in that it is geared specifically towards developing the recipient's teaching portfolio, which is key for a well-rounded academic career. Graduate Development Scholarships therefore involve taking on some teaching as well other college responsibilities. More information on these scholarships and how to apply for them is available at the Graduate Development Scholarships page of the college website.
Graduate research scholarships
St. Anne's also offers Graduate Research Scholarships, which are one-off payments to supplement other income. The Graduate Research Scholarships page of the college website contains more information about these grants the application process.
Travel and conference grants
St. Anne's provides travel and conference grants in order to support academic travel for its students. These grants are particularly useful for attending conferences and building a well-rounded research career.
Financial hardship
Each student must possess a financial guarantee before they commence study as a postgraduate, usually in the form of a letter from your research funding body or department confirming that they have adequate financial support for the duration of their research course. It is therefore rare for postgraduates to have many personal financial problems, and as a result there is no set process for hardship grant eligibility. However, in the event of unforeseen changes in circumstances and emergencies, St. Anne's may be able to offer support in conjunction with other university hardship grants, on the condition that all other avenues have been tried in order to improve your position. An application will involve a summary of income and expenditure and explanation of the circumstances and measures taken to improve the position. Please contact the college treasury for more information.
