Music
Whatever your level, there's lots of scope for doing music at St. Anne's! This page details the numerous music-related facilities, ensembles, and events that St. Anne's has to offer.
Practice rooms
St. Anne's has 4 music practice rooms in the basement of 50 Woodstock Road. The code for these rooms may be obtained from the Lodge. Three of the rooms are open and have upright pianos. The other room, known as the "Annie Barnes Music Room," is only available to those enrolled in a music degree or those who receive a music scholarship at the music competition (usually scheduled for the middle of Michaelmas term). The Annie Barnes Music Room comes equipped with a lovely Yamaha grand piano.
Music Society
St. Anne's has a student run Music Society that offers students a chance to escape the academic world of Oxford through communal musical fun. For more information contact: Amy Thompson and Anjula Semmens (amy.thompson [at] st-annes.ox.ac.uk and anjula.semmens [at] st-annes.ox.ac.uk).
The Music society is also looking to set up lots of smaller ensembles and bands to perform in the St. Anne's Gala Concerts, which take place at the end of every term, so whatever instrument you play there will be something for you!
Swing Band
The Swing Band was formed last year and has gone from strength to strength, recently performing a very successful program during the St. Anne's Arts Festival Concert.
The band is always looking to grow even bigger and would like to especially encourage brass and saxes to come along, although all forms of swing band instruments are welcome. It doesn't matter if you're a bit rusty: we're informal, fun, and friendly, so cpme and get involved!
Choir
The St. Anne's College Choir is one of the few non-auditioning choirs in Oxford. The choir meet on Mondays, and sing everything from Mozart to the Beatles.
St. Anne's and St. John's Orchestra (SASJOs)
SASJOs is the joint orchestra of St. Anne's College and St. John's College. The orchestra rehearses once a week and can promise you a Jaffa cake break and a trip to the bar afterwards. The repertoire is a mixture of fun and serious pieces, from Beethoven's 1st Symphony to the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean. For more information on SASJOs, please contact Jasmine Low by emailing jasmine.low [at] sjc.ox.ac.uk.
Recital series
During term time, College puts on musical recitals for all members to hear some of the finest musical talent from across Oxford. All College members are invited to take part, providing a unique platform for promising performers. One of the recital highlights is the annual Bursary competition, which offers the chance to win money for instrumental or singing lessons.
