Sport in Oxford
Sports teams in Oxford University work on two levels. Many of the most popular sports (football, rowing, rugby, ultimate frisbee, etc.) are played at both college and university level.
College sports
Playing for a college team means playing with other people from St. Anne's (undergraduates and graduates), often against other college teams. There are college leagues for many sports, as well as annual cup competitions (which tend to be referred to as "cuppers").
For most sports, the college teams are less "competitive" than university teams. There are also teams for some "bar games," such as pool, billiards, and table football ("foosball" in North America).
To find out more about the college teams at St. Anne's, please visit the college sports page as well as the gyms and facilities page.
University sports
Anyone from any college can also take part in the university sport teams, perhaps competing against other universities. For sports that take place at both the university and college levels, the standard of play is of course higher in the university teams. However, some of the more unusual sports can only be played at university level, so don't let that put you off giving it a go! Often, more graduates play for university teams.
To join a university team, check out the university's sports club contacts page. You can also go to University Freshers' Fair in Week 0, where there will be stalls for each of the university teams.
